The Victorian push to find the source of the White Nile began in 1856, and ended in 1888 with Richard Burton and John Speke's discovery of Lake Victoria. This was one of Australian-born war correspondent and travel writer Alan Moorehead's (1910-1983) best known books about the history of African exploration, complete with many illustrations, photo reproductions and maps.
